The New Workplace - Reviewed by Teamworks
The New Workplace -- Everyone has been there
-- big changes are announced at the company; new buzz words come into play, and management
works very hard to generate new excitement. All this lasts for about three months, and
then things go on as they always were.
This video comes in two parts, one for employees and one
for organizational leaders. (The TeamsWork! staff recommends that everyone see both, on
different days, with time to talk about what they've seen ). Both tapes are narrated by a
Native American story teller. Each includes animation, interviews, and a wide variety of
material which is coherently presented, practical, and easily adapted into even the most
resistive environment.
The subject matter in these films is not the made-up stuff
presented in so many training films and classrooms. Professionals who are interviewed
during the films present real problems, from their own workplaces. They recognize that it
is not always easy to find solutions, and they present a variety of alternatives.
There are some significant differences between the two
tapes. For instance, the leadership tape comes with a facilitator's manual which offers
lots of hand-outs, exercises, and other materials which can be used equally well for small
teams and very large groups. The employee tape, Making the Change comes in two
versions -- one for companies which have unions and one for non-union operations. Both
versions bring serious questions right to the forefront of discussion. Once again, the
tapes do not present quick, easy answers. They stimulate conversation for your
organization, which can be developed by your team.
The New Workplace, two tapes of 23 minutes
each, is available from Quality Media Resources; 10929 South East 23rd Street, Bellevue,
WA 98004; 800-800-5129.
